Write the room activities are a great way to get kids up and moving, while working on various skills. I’m sharing this activity after using it in my kindergarten classroom. My students loved it so I’m excited to share it with you, from my classroom to yours.

Math Write the Room Materials
There is very little set up required for this activity. Start by printing the shape cards and recording sheet, either in color or black and white.
Cut out the shape images so that you have six individual shapes. Tape these pictures around the room.
Next, print the recording sheet. You can laminate this page or give each child their own sheet. I like to laminate it so that it can be used over and over again. If you laminate the page, you can offer kids dry erase markers to print the shape names.
If you have clipboards available, attach one of the recording sheets to the board. Children can grab a board and dry erase marker, or pencil and being their hunt!
Math Write the Room Set Up
If you want to make the hunt more challenging, place the shape cards in less visible places. This way children have to really search in order to find it.
However, you can make the activity easier by spacing the cards out around the room at eye level.
Children then each search around the room for the shape card. When they find a card, they match it to the image on the recording sheet. They then carefully print the shape name on the line beside the shape on the recording sheet.
This math write the room activity is a great way for children to identify 3D shapes as well as their fine motor skills as they print the shape names. Once they have found all six shapes, and printed the name, they are completed the activity successfully.
Alternatively, you can do this activity without by challenging children to find an example of each actual shape in the room. For example, a water bottle becomes a cylinder and a ball becomes a sphere. Children can then check the spelling from the shape cards and print the shape name on their recording sheet after they find the shapes in the real world/classroom.
