Free Christmas Word Search for Young Kids

The holidays are right around the corner, so I’m gathering all of my holiday resources that I use each year that I know my students love. This year I’ve added a Free Christmas Word Search for Young Kids. It’s quick and easy to print and a fun learning activity to add to your holidays.

I remember doing word searches as a child and loved the feeling of finding all of the words. Often teachers use word searches as a fun way to review words from a specific unit children are studying. I was excited to bring word searches into my classroom and my students were excited to try them.

However, it did not go as well as planned. Most word searches are far too challenging for young children. Young children get very confused with traditional word searches. In preschool and kindergarten are still learning their letters and the skills needed to read; so finding words written backwards and diagonally does not support this learning.

Printable Christmas Activity

This Free Christmas Word Search for Young Children, however, was created specifically for young children. There are only nine words to find, the font is large and the words are only found left to right and down. It’s a great word search for children to experience how to do a word search, but also feel successful as they find each word.

All you need to do for this Christmas word search is subscribe to Play Learn Inspire at the bottom of this page and the resource will download right away. Print as many copies as you need for the children doing the activity.

When I have used the word search in the past, I used it as a center in my classroom. I laminated six copies of the word search and provided dry erase markers for children to search and mark off each of the words as they found them.

Once they finished and found all of the words, they erased the page and it was ready for the next child to do the activity.

Free Christmas Word Search for Young Kids

The words are easy to find, but for children who have never done a word search before, they may need a bit of help learning how to find the letters and then the words. This word search is a great way for young children to work on their letter recognition and beginning to read skills.

Kids can color in each word and then the stocking at the top of the page to be complete. It’s a simple activity to add to your holidays at home, or the classroom.
