Can you find all ten sets of leaves? In my kindergarten classroom, write the room activities have become one of my students favorite activities. They love searching the room for the different cards and then working on printing letters, or numbers. Whether you’ve done a bunch of write the room activities or are wanting to try one in your classroom, or home, this Free Fall Write the Room Math Activity is a great one to try out.
A write the room activity is set up by taping or placing various card around the room. For this activity there are ten cards with photos and numbers printed on each. Children then take a recording page and search around the room for the matching image. Once they find the image, they print the word from the card onto their page.
As a teacher, I love seeing all of the learning that happens during this write the room activity. Children are counting, printing and learning to recognize number values. I also love seeing how engaged and excited children are to search for, and find the leaves.

Fall Write the Room Math Activity Materials
There is nothing special you need for this fall write the room math activity. All you need are the four printables pages featured in this description and a pencil. All of these pages are available to download for free, at the end of this activity description.
Print each of the number cards. You will only need one copy of each of these number pages. However, you will need several copies of the Fall Leaf Hunt recording sheet.
I usually use this activity as a center in my classroom. So there are only 4-6 children at the center at a time. You can print a few copies of the recording sheet, or print one for each child to complete.
Once printed, you can laminate the pages or put them in a protective pocket that can be reused.
Fall Write the Room Math Activity
Once you have printed each of the pages, cut the number cards so that you have 10 separate cards. Tape or set each of these cards on something in the room. I like to space them out to make finding them a bit more challenging, but you can put them in any order.
Tape each of the cards somewhere around the room and give each child one of the recording sheets on a clipboard and a dry erase marker (or pencil if your pages aren’t laminated.)
Children then walk around the room searching for each page. When they find one of the cards they match the photo on the card to the same image on their recording sheet. Beside the picture they then print the number printed on the card.
Fall Scavenger Hunt Counting Leaves
You can challenge children to find the leaves in numerical order, or they can find them in any order and print the number beside the leaves.
Once all of the cards have been found and each of the numbers printed on the recording sheet, the activity is completed.
This fall write the room math activity is a great way to see how well children can identify, count, and print their numbers. It’s also a way to get them up and moving as they learn.
I typically prepare this activity to do in my classroom as a center. Children can visit and complete this activity when they are interested in it. Alternatively, you could tape each of the number cards somewhere within the school and take your class on a scavenger hunt to find each of the cards. This is also a great idea for rainy indoor recess days.
