Spring has sprung! Make learning hands-on, engaging and spring themed with this Kindergarten Math Activity and free printable. I brought this activity into my kindergarten class and my students loved it, and I’m excited to share it with you here.
I love when a learning activity feels like play for my students. They are more engaged and the learning is endless.
Whether you are looking for an activity to use in your classroom, homeschool or just for fun at home with young learners, this is a great activity to add to your plans. The game is spring themed, with bees and is simple and quick to set up.
I used Honeycomb cereal because it fit my theme, but also because it was inexpensive to use, and my students loved having a small snack as they learned and solved some of their math problems.

Kindergarten Math Activity Materials
Since I did this activity with a full class of children, it was important that I had a large supply of materials that were inexpensive. Using cereal worked out perfectly. For this kindergarten math activity, you will need:
- Cereal or Other Counter
- Bee Counting Mat (Free Below)
- Dice
- Dry Erase Marker
Honeycomb cereal worked well for this activity, but you can use any material you already have on hand. Even Cheerios, coins, or pompoms will work.
Print as many copies of the bee counting mat that you need. Laminating is a great idea if you plan to use with multiple kids, multiple times. Laminating also allows kids to print the numbers directly on the page using a dry erase marker.
Preschool Counting Activity
To set up the activity, place the cereal on a tray in a container on the table. Also place the bee counting sheets, dice and markers out on the table.
To play, the child will roll a die. They will then count out the number rolled in cereal pieces and place them in the first box on the page. They then roll the die again and count of that number of cereal pieces and place them into the second box.
Children then add the number of pieces in the first box to the number in the second box and count out the sum of the two boxes. Next, they print the total number in the smaller box in the bottom shape (where the image of the pencil is).
Kids can then eat, or put the cereal back in the container, to do their next question and roll again. The math activity is an easy way to get kids engaged and having fun as they learn.
Spring Math Activity
If you have other materials, such as mini bee erasers, you can use them in place of cereal. You can also encourage children to print each of the numbers that they represent in the erasers or cereal.
For example, kids would count and place the items for each roll of the die, but also print the number in each box. If you are focusing on subtraction, instead of addition, you can place sticky note or cover up the addition sign with a subtraction sign and work on subtracting.
